Abstract

A Hindi stage adaptation of William Shakespeare’s classic play The Merchant of Venice, presented by the second-year students of the National School of Drama. The production explores themes of justice, mercy, law, revenge, and human values through a contemporary theatrical lens while retaining the original dramatic structure.

Description

Bapi Bose is a theatre director, scenographer, and educator known for his strong visual dramaturgy and integrated approach to stage design and performance. His work often combines concept, scenography, and direction into a unified theatrical language, allowing space, movement, and imagery to function as active narrative elements rather than mere backdrops.
