Description
Phaedra is a stage adaptation of the classical French tragedy by Jean Racine, presented in translation by Krishna Baldev Vaid. Rooted in Greek mythology, the play explores the tragic consequences of forbidden love, guilt, honour, desire, and fate through the story of Queen Phaedra and her unspoken passion for her stepson, Hippolytus. The production emphasizes psychological conflict, emotional intensity, and the moral dilemmas faced by its characters, reflecting the conventions of classical tragedy. Presented as part of the National School of Drama's Design and Direction programme, the scenework combines performance, visual design, and directorial interpretation to examine the enduring relevance of classical drama in contemporary theatre training.
