Abstract
The Miser is a Hindi theatrical adaptation of Molière's classic comedy, conceptualised and directed by Robin Das and presented by the National School of Drama final-year students. The play explores themes of greed, money, family relationships, social status and human folly through the comic figure of a miser. Music direction was by Gopal Datt. The production was presented from 13 to 16 September 2025 at Abhimanch Auditorium, National School of Drama, Bahawalpur House, Bhagwandas Road, New Delhi.
Description
Robin Das is an Indian theatre director, scenic designer, actor and theatre teacher associated closely with the National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi. He graduated from NSD in 1976 and joined its teaching faculty in 1977–78. An official record describes him as a scenic-design graduate who worked with several important Indian directors and later directed numerous productions. He received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2000 for his contribution to scenic design in theatre. He was also honoured with the Pandit Ganga Sharan Hindi Sevi Samman for his contribution to Hindi theatre through teaching and direction. His theatre practice combines scenic design, direction, acting and theatre training. Sources describe him as having directed more than 50 plays across different genres and having designed sets for around 50 productions. He has also conducted theatre workshops in different parts of India.
