Abstract

An open class presentation demonstrating practical training in Indian classical performance traditions, conducted under the guidance of Dr. Dipti Omcherry Bhalla as part of the academic curriculum of the National School of Drama.

Description

Open Class of Indian Classical Practical is a practical demonstration showcasing the principles and techniques of India's classical performing arts traditions as part of the actor training programme at the National School of Drama. The presentation integrates elements of abhinaya (expression), mudras (hand gestures), body movement, rhythm, music, and traditional performance techniques derived from classical theatre and dance practices. Conducted as an open class, it provides audiences with an opportunity to observe the pedagogical process through which students develop physical discipline, expressive skills, and an understanding of the aesthetic principles described in the Natyashastra. The demonstration highlights the importance of India's classical performance heritage in shaping an actor's voice, movement, emotional expression, and stage presence.
