Abstract
Walls is a theatrical adaptation of a story by celebrated Malayalam writer Vaikom Muhammad Basheer. The work explores themes of love, separation, emotional confinement, hope, and the invisible barriers that divide people. Like much of Basheer's writing, the story combines simplicity, compassion, and humanism while addressing profound emotional and social realities. This student production interprets the literary work through contemporary theatrical direction, visual design, and performance.
Description
Neelam Maansingh Choudhary is one of India's most distinguished theatre directors, known for integrating traditional Indian performance traditions with contemporary theatre practices. As the production guide, she supervised the artistic and pedagogical development of the scenework.
Shruthi V. is a theatre practitioner and Third Year Direction student at the National School of Drama. For Walls, she served as the concept creator, designer, and director, adapting Basheer's story into a stage performance. Guided by Neelam Maansingh Choudhary and assisted by Vansh Bhardwaj, the production demonstrates her training in dramatic adaptation, visual storytelling, actor direction, and stage composition.
