Abstract
Ratnavali (Classical Scenework) is a student performance based on selected scenes from the classical Sanskrit play Ratnavali, traditionally attributed to King Harsha. Conducted under the guidance of Piyal Bhattacharya, the production serves as an academic exercise in classical acting and performance. Through the exploration of dramatic scenes, students engage with the stylistic conventions of Sanskrit theatre, including expressive acting, characterization, movement, dialogue delivery, and stagecraft. The scenework provides practical training in interpreting classical texts while fostering an appreciation of India's rich theatrical heritage and enhancing the performers' understanding of traditional dramaturgy.
