Abstract
A Midsummer Night's Dream (Design Input) is a Costume Demonstration inspired by William Shakespeare's celebrated comedy. The presentation explores costume as a visual storytelling medium, interpreting the play's magical and dreamlike atmosphere through theatrical costume concepts. Conceptualised and designed by Gagan R. Godgal under the guidance of Kanchan Ujjal, the demonstration highlights creative design research, character interpretation, and costume aesthetics developed as part of the Design & Direction curriculum at the National School of Drama.
Description
Kanchan Ujjal is an Indian theatre practitioner known for contributions to costume design, art direction, and makeup design. As a mentor and guide for design students, Kanchan Ujjal has supported the development of costume concepts and theatrical visual design through practical training and creative supervision. In the Senior Second Year Design & Direction Costume Demonstration at the National School of Drama, Kanchan Ujjal guided the conceptual and design process for Gagan R. Godgal's presentation of A Midsummer Night's Dream (Design Input), helping students translate Shakespeare's characters and themes into theatrical costume design.
