Abhijnanasakuntalam (The Recognition of Shakuntala) is one of the greatest works of classical Sanskrit literature, written by Mahakavi Kalidasa. The play narrates the love story of King Duṣyanta and Sakuntalā, whose marriage is disrupted by a sage's curse causing the king to forget her. A lost signet ring eventually restores his memory, leading to their reunion with their son Bharata. Renowned for its poetic beauty, emotional depth, and depiction of nature, the play explores themes of love, separation, destiny, memory, forgiveness, and reunion.
