Abstract
Andha Yug (The Age of Blindness) is one of the most significant works of modern Hindi drama, written by Dharamvir Bharati in 1953. Set on the final day of the Mahabharata war, the play examines the moral and psychological consequences of war rather than its heroic victories. Through characters such as Gandhari, Dhritarashtra, Ashwatthama, Vidura, and Krishna, the drama explores themes of blindness, revenge, ethical responsibility, despair, violence, and redemption. Widely regarded as a classic of Indian theatre, Andha Yug has been staged extensively for its enduring relevance to political conflict, human suffering, and moral choice.
Description
Ram Gopal Bajaj is one of India's foremost theatre directors, actors, scholars, and educators. A former Director of the National School of Drama, he has made substantial contributions to Hindi theatre through productions of both classical and modern Indian drama. His direction is noted for its textual depth, disciplined acting style, innovative stagecraft, and integration of Indian performance traditions with contemporary theatrical practice.
